‘Tis the season… to not visit websites

Here’s an interesting tidbit from the life of a web developer.

Jy sou dink dat mense sal gaan op die internet met daardie blink nuwe selfoon / tablet / broodrooster hulle het vir die vakansie seisoen.

Blykbaar, niemand doen wat. Hier is 'n blik op my jongste treffers (nie die band tipe, Ek bedoel die aantal besoekers aan hathix.com):

As die feestelike gees styg, besoeke aan webwerwe gaan sit.

Van wat ek gesien het, Dit blyk die geval te wees met pretty much elke webwerf en app: besoeke of downloads skerp afname gedurende die vakansie seisoen. Vir wat dit werd is, things return right back to normal once the new year begins.

Right now, if you want to buy a smartphone you have two main options: iPhone and Android. If you’re feeling brave, daar is Windows Phone. Nie veel verskeidenheid.

Al wat dit is om te verander.

Hierdie komende jaar gaan die vrylating van te sien nuwe, gratis smartphone bedryfstelsels wat lyk gereed om die wêreld te verander van slimfone – vir die beter. Kom ons neem 'n blik.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu, die baie gewilde open-source bedryfstelsel vir rekenaars is die verspreiding van gerugte dat hulle gaan vry te stel van 'n weergawe van die bedryfstelsel vir smart phones. Die fone is nie uit nie, maar mense rondom die internet say they’re definitely in the works.

Twitter is 'n groot sosiale netwerk vir die inhaal op die laaste - oh hey, Ek het 'n nuwe Tweet! Terug te wees in 'n tweede.

Oeps, jammer. Soos ek gesê het, Twitter, die “ander” sosiale netwerk, is 'n ongelooflike vinnige en maklike manier om te vang op al die nuus wat geskik is om te tik in een gerieflike plek. Maar, om ten volle gebruik maak van die # awesomeness wat Twitter, jy het 'n bietjie om te leer. Gelukkig vir jou, @ Ek het een wat _AT_ jy nou lees. #whatluck

Why it’s awesome being a developer

Blykbaar, these are a bunch of computer programmers.

Ninjas.

That’s what computer programmers are calling themselves nowadays. The profession (if you can even call it that) goes by a litany of none-too-glamorous names, such as developer, programmer, engineer, technician, and more stuff that doesn’t quite make you the most popular guy in the room. Hence, a lot of, er, programmers (for lack of a better word) go by ninja or such. Which I find slightly annoying – you’re writing code, not killing enemies of the emperor. But I digress.

tl;dr – hathix.com had some downtime but my super-helpful host WebHostingHub cleared it up immediately. Also, I apologize for the fanboyishness – it’s just that WHH is that awesome.

I was recently working with some so-called cutting-edge web programming techniques (parsing JSON using PHP from client requests using JavaScript and jQuery… told you it was gory) and realized I needed a new version of some software on the server that hathix lives on.
